Forty people lined up at the T-Mobile store in the La Jolla UTC area of San Diego to get the first Google Android enabled phone, the G1, before it opened at 8am with the first person arriving at 5:15am.
The T-Mobile sales people at the store with their G1 shirts that stated “Curiosity is Everywhere” said actually “Tired is Everywhere” was the state of the opening crowd as they offered no negotiation when purchasing the G1 by quickly signing any forms, paying, and then hurrying off to bed.
This T-Mobile store had only 30 G1 units and no “I was the first to get it” shirts but will be getting another G1 shipment on approximately November 10th including what I am told is the white model.
There was a MobileSolution kiosk nearby that still had 3 G1s - only the bronze, brown, crap color, whatever you want to call it for marketing - but were trying to sell it for approximately $300 about $100 more than T-Mobile online or in store.
I played with the G1 at the store and was surprised how small it was as I was fully expecting something clunkier but I do see many kinks that need to be worked out as already an over the air patch for the G1 will be sent out a day later called RC28.
I am waiting on the white G1 being that I was told to be on the top of the distribution list once it comes out as unfortunately there was a white paint chipping issue that delayed its release in the US.
In my heart of hearts I would really like to hold out for the G2 after the G1 gets debugged and worked over by the public (and paying) QA service.
