T-Mobile Sends Surveys to G1 Owners

Posted on Jan 9, 2009 by Michael Martin in Service Providers, gPhones | 16 Comments

T-Mobile sent emails to all (or select?) G1 owners to gauge their opinions of the first generation Google Android phone.

I received it Thursday January 8th in the afternoon from Jennifer Mitchell stating, “T-Mobile would like to hear from you regarding your experience with your new T-Mobile G1 with Google phone.”

As it continues with, “Your feedback will help T-Mobile to optimize your experience with your T-Mobile G1 phone by improving available resources and services that you may use. ”

Then depending on the answers to a short survey, you get selected to participate in a 45-minute interactive online discussion.

You can see feedback from others taking the survey along with your answers and it seemed the battery was at the top of the complaint list along with FLASH & Outlook Exchange support.

This interactive online discussion asked a LOT of questions about the battery life of the G1 as I show within the image of this post.

Who else received this survey and is it the precursor for the G1 battery replacement notifications?

    Didn’t get the survey here..
My “wish list”: UMA, Better than CIF video, accelerometer based orientation, better Wifi support (can’t connect to a b router), unrestricted root access prompt (it’s going to happen anyways, why not make it a feature?)…

I want to turn my G1 into an old fashioned FidoNet node and run Legend of the Red Dragon, lol..

I didn’t receive the survey either. Things I am having issues with: battery life, no flash, no google earth, no video recording. If all of the rumors I have been reading are correct, some/all of these issues will be corrected with the Cupcake update. Here’s hoping.

I took my survey back in the first week of November. I complained a lot about the battery life and no 3.5″ jack. Nice to see t-mobile paying attention.

    No survey here, either.

My favorite issues: battery life, imap mail, kill running processes, tethering for laptop modem.

No survey here. Battery life is the major hurdle for me. Like Jeremy I’d like to be able to kill processes. Seems sluggish sometimes. Also, install apps on storage card is big. Come on TMO, where’s my damn cupcake!

No survey here either. Checked junk / spam too.

    Like others:
    - Battery
    - Install apps to SD
    - Kill running apps
    - Video recording

Flash is an Adobe to-do, but it will be nice when it’s available.

Nope no survey here neither, I don’t have much to complain about since the battery life is much better after conditioning it ( Tip from a user at android community forums ).

All other issue I have should be addressed with software updates or programs.

I would like to get a G1, but without UMA, it is a deal breaker. No UMA, No G1! Please put it in the next release!

UMA meaning Unlicensed Mobile Access as in calls over WiFi?

    Would LOVE to get that!

Doubt T-Mobile or the other carriers would go for that ;)

Actually, TMobile already does offer UMA. They call it “Unlimited Hotspot Calling”. Pricewise, it is extremely economical (for my family and me). And connection quality wise, except for an occasional dropped call when I stray too far, too quickly from the wireless network, it works well. I am using the BlackBerry 8320 which supports UMA.

I accrue much more wifi time than I do anything else. But, back to the G1, I would love to buy one. But without a Hotspot enabled version, I can’t get one.

For me, generally the phone is very good…EXCEPT….

    a) Terrible battery…and I mean really terrible.
    b) Stuff running in the background
    c) No Google Earth
    d) No Google Latitude here in the UK
    e) Mostly crap apps in the market – more apps by Google

You know I think I’ve had just about enough with my “G1″ it sucks when you see the competitors phone (I) and it has a google feature ( gearth) and mine doesn’t , adobe and mine doesn’t ! I’m sorry for all you investors and stock holders who support the G1, Google is making some bad decisions with your money!
