T-Mobile Has a Place for G1 Cupcake Cry Babies

Posted on Jan 12, 2009 by Michael Martin in Service Providers, gPhones | 26 Comments

T-Mobile has setup a specific forum for the overwhelming amount of G1 users asking about the Cupcake update, called the WHAAAAA I WANT MY CUPCAKE thread.

This THREAD was setup at the end of last year but where all current requests and questions to T-Mobile on the Cupcake update for the G1 are ushered.

I would refrain from calling into T-Mobile support but “vent” at that thread or here at Google And Blog.

Again Sunday January 11th was the EARLIEST an update with Cupcake elements could conceivably come out, but from my sources it should still be sent out “Over The Air” later this week unless there are still bugs to work out in porting it to the G1.

Also, if anyone claims to have received an update past RC30 for the G1 going forward, then please provide a photo or screenshot of the new build number on the phone.

The Android Community has a GREAT step by step way to get screenshots from the G1 without root access HERE.

Ugh, I just read through a page and a bit of comments on that T-Mobile forum thread and all I can say is OMG. So many babies who really do not understand the process which software goes through to get to an end product. Can’t people understand that if an update is not ready no amount of whining is going to get it any faster. Too many people who do not understand computers have already bought this phone (not mentioning the tools who have been flaming authors on the market place).

I think that thread is WAY out of line by mghtyred.

Time for a new mod. I hit abuse on that thread, and also sent a PM to the admin Tony.

    Thinking about calling to complain.

I think you is all fools man.

Wasting your life rubbing off against your G1 phones.

There’s a world out there – so stop crying like big girls and enjoy it. I think Google should take your G1’s and slap you with them right on both sides of your bottom.

The 2nd of two rumored cupcake release dates have passed and depression is setting in. It seems we must resort to prayer and so…

“In the name of the father/fabricator (HTC) and of the son/service (T-mobile) and of the holy ghost (Google)amen.
Our father (Android) who are in heaven (Online) hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come on earth (in handsets) as it is in heaven (online). Give us this day our daily bread (cupcake) and forgive us our trepasses (being early adopters) as we forgive those who trespass against us (AT&T, Apple and Iphone users).
Lead us not into temptation (lusting for flash, video and stereo bluethooth), world (internet) without end amen.”

Let “Cupcake” fall from heaven like “Manna” to sustain us as we cross the desert looking for the holy land, peopled by other Android users.

Cupcake cupcake cupcake is all I hear…while the iphone is out there tryin to look for better things to add to itz phone we ova here lookin forward for a virtual keyboard……why didn’t google just included virtual keyboard nd auto rotate nd all them cool features that the iphone already has? I really hope that the g2 fixes all this cuz I gave up on the g1….I shouldn’t be hackin ma phone to get autorotate wtf is at all about? I’m just sayin, I just lookin forward for real development like the G2…hopefully it won’t let me down….all google gotta kno is that if the G phone has a bigger screen, better resolution, both virtual nd physical keyboard, flash player, records video and auto rotate is guaranteed dat the G phone will put the iphone aside nd take the number one spot nd might just have at&t users switch ova to tmobile

I agreed that this phone was pretty good until, after having it only 2 weeks:

    – The camera stopped recognising the SD card so I couldbt take photos. This is a common complaint it seems
    – 2 days later the phone would no longer charge so wont turn on now.

I can get a replacement handset but it all just seems a bit dodgy to me – as if they’ve released a handset and software for it too soon.

I loved this device but can’t imagine taking the risk again. I spent £20 ($35) on an invisible skin which i of course cant take off the broken handset.

I purchased an sdhc card for my phone and when I put it in, I kept running into error with the camera not responding when launched. A format of the sdhc card and the problem was solved. As for the battery life, I’ve had my phone for a week and so far I’ve been getting somewhere around 24 to 36 hours of battery life depending on useage. I’ve been playing around on the phone and I have e-mail set for auto-sync, disabled calendar & contacts. I also have wi-fi & bluetooth turned on. Note: I turn wi-fi off whenever I leave the house or not at a hotspot. Also, I keep network notification disabled unless needed. As for display brightness, I have that set to 30, the screen timeout set to 30. The first time I got the phone, I charged it fully and did not charge it again until it ran out of juice and shut down on me.

OMFG the crybabies are here too!

Listen up all you “why are things perfect yet” people:

You don’t deserve this amazing phone. Period. Leave the heavy lifting to us early adopters and wait a year for all the bugs to get worked out like the good sheeple that you are.

Quit cha bitchin. Go buy an iphone or something.

I couldn’t be more pleased with the G1… the fact that an update is coming this soon after it’s release.

The onscreen keyboard is of no or little use to me.

What sort of tool comes to a blog like this and lectures other people about complaining or being impatient. People were excited about this phone’s possibilities and they’re tired of explaining to people with Iphones that one day the g1 will be cooler and more functional than theirs….but it might mot be til be 2012 or so. I’d like some concrete reason to believe that this phone was a good get, and that open source promised more than just 80 diferent ways to use my $300 phone as a flashlight… and any cutting edge he-man “early adopters” who cant relate to that can heavy lift my scrotum and place it securely between their tougue and soft palate

When you were buying the “google”(G1) phone, were you promised that there are going to be the updates by a certain date? And, more then that, did anyone promise you the beauty of the cupcake at all at that time? Is it part of the contract to have a cupcake released by “google” and do it in a certain timeframe? My opinion is that G1 users have to appreciate the fact that the Google Team and T-Mobile are working on increasing the abilities and capabilities of the G1-phone… when the cupcake is going to be out you will know it, and you will have enough time to enjoy it… Personally, I choose not to waste my time on blogging and searching the web to find out about all the “rumors” on the cupcake, i think i can use my time more efficiently… all i want to know is that the development of the “update” is in the process, and that teams are making every effort to release it a.s.a.p…
(posted as one of my good friends asked me to post here my opinion…)
