When some people hear about “training”, even on a hot topic like Android, they envision balding guys with glasses, droning on endlessly in a monotone, putting them to sleep while they are cooped up in stuffy training room.
Good news! Big Nerd Ranch is holding an Android development training class that has none of that! Except for the balding guy with glasses.
From March 16-20, you can spend a week in a bed-and-breakfast-style country inn, eat good food, take hikes around the Snake Creek Gorge outside Atlanta, Georgia, and, along the way, get a thorough grounding in Android application development.
You will learn how to create Android GUIs (activities) and background processes (services), plus how to take advantage of many of the cool features of Android like location tracking, displaying maps, and using Internet access. I will be your instructor, and I’ve been told that I know a bit about Android.
Big Nerd Ranch classes are all-inclusive: transportation from the hotel, lodging, meals, and training all rolled into one.
The lab in which we will hold the class will stay open after dinner, so you are encouraged to bring your own ideas for Android projects and work on them — I’ll be around to help answer questions.
The environment is very casual, with a small class size and a “wear what makes you comfortable” dress code. The goal is for you to learn, and the Big Nerd Ranch folk have a lot of experience in delivering focused-yet-fun training.
If you are interested in the class, sign up! If you need more information about Big Nerd Ranch, let them know! If you want to know more about the material that is covered in the class, reply here, or reach me at training _at_ commonsware.com.
