The G1 Phone Makes It Onto 90210 Before Google Latitude Can Discover It

Posted on Feb 4, 2009 by Michael Martin in Applications, Open Handset Alliance, gPhones | 2 Comments

The G1 phone makes a cameo on 90210 as it was spotted before Google Latitude comes out for the G1 with the RC33 update sent out by February 15th to most owners.

Gizmodo noticed the G1 on the show as I didn’t think anyone was really watching 90210 anymore since it tried to pick up where the show left off in the 90s.

So the G1 has to start somewhere to get public exposure as Apple adeptly does so well in Hollywood getting Macs great product placement in movies (seems EVERY movie with a laptop is using a Mac)

Google Latitude was also announced today which will allow mobile phone users to share their location with close contacts.

Latitude will be enabled for G1 phone owners with the RC33 OTA update which is being rolled out incrementally over the next 2 weeks.

Google Latitude allows you to hide from specific people or manually place where you WANT people to THINK you are.

When somebody is close, like if a friend is in town or nearby, Latitude lets you contact the person by calling, e-mailing, or sending a text message MMS.

The end game for Google is to bring in some location-based advertising revenue with Latitude and then maybe use that money to get G1 more exposure on some better TV shows.

But Naomi (the blonde in the pic) uses a Sidekick XL in the show. And when i say uses, I mean picks up and texts or calls at least three-four times per episode.
