It was announced this morning that a new Android Google Group will have postings of new Android freeware at http://groups.google.com/group/android-freeware.
There are already some initial applications that are already placed there including a Memo game, file browsers, XLive, and even a mini Opera browser.
The rules for this group are:
*** I made the incorrect assumption that this was a group created by Google but Jeff Sharkey pointed out in the comments below that it is in fact from an Android Freeware Directory, which I won’t link to as he was astute to point out that they may be trying to game the group in order to get traffic.
Perhaps over time this site may prove to be a quality resource and the freeware group be something of value to check out new Android apps.
Jeff incidently is one of the 50 winners from the first round of the Android Developer Challenge with his Scan App.
This group was *not* created by Google.
It appears to have been started by the guy from android-freeware.org trying to get more traffic.
Look at the group description: “This group accompanies our Android freeware website at android-freeware.org”
Please check your stories more carefully before you publish.
@Jeffrey
Good call, I should not have been so lazy to just assume.
I made the correction and cited you with a link within the post.
mea máxima culpa!
Jeffrey and Michael, we never claimed anywhere that the group was created by Google. Description of the clearly states that.
@Jeffrey : “started by the guy from android-freeware.org trying to get more traffic”. Nice assumption, but wrong. We want people to participate in the accumulation and seeking of freebies for this platform. This is just an another way to reach people.
