The G1 should get Donut Android 1.6 release in October but I am doubtful it will be able to handle Eclair Android 2.0

You are right as that was the tentative release number back in June.

Now that there is more clarity to the release versioning Donut is 1.6 and Eclair is 2.0.

donut isnt 2.0
it was never officially called 2.0 anywhere, it was only speculative
it is infact 1.6
