The Doritos commercial aired during the 2009 Super Bowl seems to point to the best answer for when Flash, the Cupcake OTA update for G1 users, and paid applications are allowed into the Android Market.
Adobe, T-Mobile, & Google are all respectively mum on the above timing other than throwing around Qs or Hs in 2009 for their release.
Adobe has been strangely silent to when Flash will be available on Android after teasing us in November 2008 at the Adobe MAX 2008 Developer Conference showing it working on the G1.
Cupcake is openly available to anyone that wants to root their phone and manually upgrade while T-Mobile support has been providing conflicting information to when this will be available to the masses via an Over The Air update.
Google simply stated sometime in Q1 2009 that the Android Market will allow paid applications as some inferred that it would really be by the end of January, although realistically they have til the end of March.
Rumor is that Google is going to use PayPal for payment in the Android Market and NOT their own Google Checkout due to the overwhelming users in PayPal as Google knows they will need as many users as possible to help the Android Market grow.
It does make you want to use the crystal ball method as in this Doritos commercial to get the exact answers as shown below:
This is BullShit! Wait, wait, “WAIT”
I thought Punxsutawney Phil predicted it better.
Six More Weeks of lame G1s and unfulfilled T-Mobile Store pre-holiday sales rep promises.
All I know is that I want my cupcake. I want my flash, I want my stereo bluetooth and capability to send media, images and etc bluetooth if that is even a feature with the update, I want my on screen keyboard, I want I want I want! I have been patient but now at the beginning of February and 2 “promised” dates passed I need my fix man!
I got a feelin I’ll be switching to al bb curve soon. I don’t have a lot of patience with this sort of shit. Which is the reason I bought the g1 in the first place, I got tired of tmo screwing around with the ota’s for the sidekick.
I am still glad that I bought my G1. In a couple months I am going to have a great phone and an even better OS. I bought the phone with the OS “as-is”. People seriously need to quit complaining. It will come when it comes. BB, to me, seems like the CraigsList of the phone world – horrible interface, terrible functionality, etc. There’s no way I would ever get one in the first place. G1 is definitely the way to go…even if you have to wait for a little bit to get better, stable OS.
Thank you very much! Your post hits it on the head. I think alot of people love to go to forums and post just to get their rocks off. The phone is GREAT! otherwise you people wouldn’t have bought it. Each piece of technology has it’s time to develop and this phone is no different.
Nothing and I mean nothing comes out PERFECT! They are working on it… the delays are who knows for what reason… maybe additional features who really knows? but when they do come out then it will be great!
I think some people love to read their own posts… every forum is the sane lame crap. Some idiots trying to bash and trash and write something witty and funny.
Everyone who is going to “trade” in their phones go do it. The first Apple iphone had it’s bugs. The second one came out had it’s bugs… just like any phone. This is the first attempt at the phone and not even an update yet. At least we know they are working on it and listening to the community. I am sure this phone will be the best out there as it is to me already just has it’s bugs and delays like anything else.
lol. i myself am waiting patiently for cupcake. the waiting does suck but it better be worth it.
