
As today marks the end of the Summer of 2009 and the beginning of the Fall I wanted come out of posting hibernation to revisit the Summer of Android Love predictions.
I felt this Summer brought great momentum for Android as manufacturers, especially Motorola, and developers are really attaching themselves and believing in Android to deliver for them as we head toward the Holiday Season.
The Summer predictions I made in June was mostly on target with a lot hinging on a stable Donut release and mass distribution of capable Android phones toward the end of the year.

Google has initiated what it terms as an experiment with select universities & colleges as they give away free Android phones to students in Computer Science courses.
Each school will get 20 HTC Android phones according to The Wired Campus but it did not clarify if these would be And Dev 1 G1 Dream phones or possibly Google Ion Magic phones.

As Apple continues to “evaluate” Google Voice for the App Store its the Android users who determines what stays in the Android Market.
This Big Brother approach was the final straw for Michael Arrington of TechCrunch and others to leave the iPhone for the freedom of Android as he even has his HTC Hero Halloween costume already prepared.
The Android Market is not without its faults as finding applications is cumbersome along with needing a better spam comment control but most concerning is applications that just go missing randomly which is most concerning for high profile applications such as Layers & ShopSavvy.

JesusFreke announced his retirement from making Android ROMs and has passed the baton to Cyanogen.
The popular Android ROM customizations will stop for now as JesusFreke declared on his blog but opens the door to Jesus rising again.
Thus Cyanogen is now forefront in Android ROM development but will he become the next Jesus?
Apparently Deepak Chopra has already declared the Third Jesus so would Cyanogen be the 4th or was that JesusFreke?
Another up and comer in Android ROM development is Enomther whose ROMs you can acquire along with Cyanogen’s at AndroidSPIN.

The polls will close at midnight EST on Sunday August 16th with the winners announced shortly after.
Nearing Noon PST on Monday August 10th there has been nearly 10,000 votes cast.
The Android Network Awards were started up by the Wimberly brothers of AndroidandMe with the support of GoogleAndBlog and a vast global network of other Android sites.
