Android Brings Mobile Social Media to the Masses

Posted on Oct 15, 2008 by Michael Martin in Developers, gPhones | 0 Comments

The dominating SmartPhones in 2009 will be the ones that have a fast user friendly access to social networks, location services, and search.

The emergence of Android is unleashing this creativity with individual programmers as well corporations such as Motorola whereby they are already posting positions to develop an Android Social Networking SmartPhone – which a fellow AndroidGuy had discovered.

This Android SmartPhone would allow easy access to location based mobile social networking services such as GyPSii, Pelago, and Loopt to track, find, and meet nearby friends.

Analysts estimate there are approximately 500 million users of social media this year, Facebook and MySpace alone have more than 220 million users, and predict over 600 million in 2009.

ABI Research states that 46 percent of Facebook and MySpace users login from their cell phone, which is at least 100 million people, as half of them check for comments and messages from their friends, while the other half post status updates.

These mobile users of social networks are likely to consume two or three times as much digital mobile content – such as pictures, music, videos and games – than those not utilizing social media on their phone.

This means more revenue and exposure for the programmers that provide this mobile content as well incentive for the mobile service providers to embrace Android as it would open up this pipeline of increased data use which they would monetize.

Thus Android with the mass support of programmers, mobile phone manufacturers, and service providers will give rise to the prominence of mobile social media sites.
