Android Community Gets Hacked & RickRolled

Posted on Mar 2, 2009 by Michael Martin in Anything Android | 14 Comments

The Android Community was assumably hacked into with a post stating an exclusive video of the HTC G3 but in fact consisting of a male homosexual sex act photo plus a rickrolled video to top it off.

This seems to be a personal attack on Vincent Nguyen with someone hacking in as Brady Landgren authoring the post.

The post rambles on to slander him by stating SlashGear editor Chris Daves writes everything for him on the Android Community.

The intention of this GAB post is to get their attention and hasten the removal of this disturbing post as my direct correspondence has not been met with a reply or takedown.

*** CAUTION NSFW containing a graphic homosexual sex act image ***

The post in question was here but I would suggest a robots.txt exclusion and Google cache removal request for it as well since it can still be seen here

Upon emailing the Android Community to remove the post I was met with this automated response which I can only assume was hacked as well:

“We are sick of listening to your bitching and complaining. Just fucken stop messing us. We don’t have time for you to bitch all day. If you don’t like how this site is run then go somewhere else. I will even delete your account.

    IS THAT CLEAR?!?!?!”

This type of reply is typical of Vincent an the Android Community camp. They have a “superiority complex” towards any site/owner who is not large enough to benefit them. Igornance is Bliss!

I’m not at all surprised at his idiotic response when someone is simply trying to help him remove flamatory remarks which could offend their readers.

We know first hand as we’ve received replies similar to this and even retaliation from their website when we first launched AndroidTapp.com (37 Homosexual referenced Spam comments). There’s even evidence left on their website they forgot to delete when we asked them about it. See the link below where they banned us and changed our profile to the same references they left on our website and lied about never doing such a thing: http://androidcommunity.com/forums/members/androidtapp/

I’m not sure I understand the point of this attack. I don’t see too many people out there with negative feelings toward android THIS strong. Unless this assault was personal in nature?

On a side note to Michael Martin. I keep up with an amazingly huge # of news/rss feeds on android, google and such…and increasingly hate FUD reply to incorrect posts

The main purpose of MY post was to get the word out to the Android Community folks about this post either directly or via others pinging them.

The hacker’s intentions are not clear other than being defamatory and obscene.

My attempts to privately and discretely contact the AC owners about this were all blocked by the hacker since it seems their email was hacked into.

I like The Android Community so I am NOT propagating FUD on them but casting light to the hackers ridiculousness and speeding up its removal from their site…which incidentally was done shortly after this posting thankfully.

Oops sent that post above a tad early. The end of it was suppose to say:

I go to reply to incorrect posts (ex being the journalist touting “android app deleting contacts”) and lo and behold, you’ve beat me to it. Man…I thought I was quick. You usually beat me to the punch by 2 hours.

Feel free to edit the TWO posts

Seems like the hacking was done for personal reasons. nothing disgraces or bad mouth the android platform. i cant help thinking it was done by someone close to the creators of AC.

It was by Shawn Brown, the previous admin, he got fired by AC because he wasn’t doing his job and messed up so many times (hey if you messed up in your job often, it is no suprise to get fired)

But he wasnt man enough to just pack up and leave after getting fired, such a dumb kid

Is this purely speculation or do you have evidence of this?

My limited communications with Shawn were always professional and he seemed to know his stuff IMHO.

I just don’t like to expose a person’s name unless there is some undeniable facts behind an accusation.

Was anyone able to get word out to the AC admins? And is there any proof if it was Shawn?

The Android Community posted an apology this morning – http://androidcommunity.com/apology-from-android-community-20090303/ – but didn’t get into specifics on who and why probably under advisement by their attorneys.

Michael, as the community manager for Android Community, I wanted to drop by and thank you personally for looking out for us. That was very kind of you. As soon as I was aware of what had happened, I immediately tried to correct the problem, but was unable to as the person who did this had also locked me out of the site, therefore rendering me virtually helpless. Thankfully, I was able to contact Ewdi and he was able to quickly remedy the situation.
